Jodi...A Lesson in Bartering
You may know that bartering is pretty much the way to do business in Mexico. Since, I like to experience the culture, I thought I'd give it a try one day while we were at a little marketplace. I was looking for some "thingys" to take to my friends at work, nothing special, just a little something. I found these cute little turtles with the heads that bobble and thought they'd be great. So I boldly approached the proprietor of the particular vending booth (I'm guessing she was about 10-12 years old.) "Quanto Es?" I say in my very best Spanish (from, you guessed it, Spanish Dos!) She said they were $1 each or 3 for $2.50. After counting all of my close friends I decided I needed....4 (pitiful I know, but it's hard to make new friends here!) I tried to do some quick math in my head, but I apparently forgot to engage the brain. I turned to her slyly and said, "I'll take 4 for $5!" She looked at me with a funny look and said, "Si." Megan just walked away saying somthing that sounded like, "Mi Madre es muy loca!"
